About HAF.
The Hyman Abramovich Foundation (HAF) is a charitable organisation committed to supporting its sole beneficiary, Masada College.
Established in 1983, the Foundation was created to honour the legacy of Major Hyman Abramovich MC, a distinguished Jewish Australian army officer who served with distinction during World War II.
The Foundation’s origins trace back to the 1980 Masada College capital appeal, which received notable attention in the Jewish press. In response, Dr Susan Sedgwick pledged a donation of $1,000 and was subsequently invited to tour the College. During her visit, then College President Mr Mark Fisher shared details about a program that provided fee assistance to families to attend Masada College.
Inspired by the College’s mission and moved by the conversation, Dr Sedgwick establish a foundation dedicated to supporting these students. She requested it be named in memory of her brother, Hyman Abramovich. Through the Hyman Abramovich Foundation, Dr Sedgwick went on to contribute over $4 million to Masada College, creating a lasting legacy of educational opportunity and community support
The Foundation’s governance is uniquely aligned with Masada College’s mission, as its shareholders are exclusively former Presidents of the Masada College Board. This strong connection ensures a unified vision for the future of both the Foundation and the College.
HAF’s primary mission is to provide financial support to Masada College and assist in the construction and maintenance of its buildings. Through this vision, and unwavering dedication, the Foundation has played a key role in preserving the tradition of Jewish learning at Masada College, ensuring that Jewish education remains a cornerstone of our community’s growth and continuity.
